Michael Jordan rant.
Unrelated to anything relevant.. but I know some of you watched the finals.
I for one am sick and tired of people worshipping Michael Jordan like some god amongst men and being unwilling to give ANYONE any kind of credit in sports (obviously 90% of the time it is basketball) without comparing them to Michael Jordan. No one here can be happy for Lebron James (three years ago it was Kobe) because it somehow threatens Michael Jordan's place in their little ideolistic haven.
Problem 1:
Michael Jordan was a great player. I get it. I watched him play. He was dominant in his era. However, the parity of Sports has increased tenfold since Michael Jordan's Era. Players like Kobe and Lebron have faced much better competition than Michael Jordan. MJ was perfect in the finals because he flat out didn't play the kind of teams Lebron and Kobe have had to play. Kobe has been cursed with the Western Conference.. the most competitive it has ever been in the history of the game. He has had to contend with a dynasty (the Spurs 4/13 titles, 3 sure lock Hall of Famers, the obvious 3) for the last 13 years. Then when he finally got to the title, he had to deal with Boston every time (4 sure lock future Hall of Famers - Pierce, Garnett, Allen, Rondo). Lebron has had to beat that Boston quartet every year except this year! Then, lets not talk about the upcoming OKC dynasty. Jordan flat out never faced this kind of adversity. He had to face teams with 1-2 HOFs per team at the most, while his supporting cast was just flat out better!
Problem 2:
"The Game has changed" - Michael Jordan's stats will always be bloated because the game averages 20% fewer possessions than Jordan's Era. Teams average 7-8 PPG less than back then. Multiply current players stats by 1.2 to be fair. Zone defenses didn't exist. Players weren't as big AND fast as they are now. Is your car faster? Is your cell phone better? Is your computer faster and smaller? Is Usain Bolt faster than Carl Lewis? Sports evolve just like technology (suppliments, training camps, studying, better training).
Problem 3:
Michael Jordan was a great teammate - WRONG. MJ was a HORRIBLE teammate. His player's hated him. Pippen hates him with a passion for it. "The Jordan Rules" ring a bell? Somehow people think MJ's court IQ was great or something. Kobe is a ballhog. Lebron passes too much. MJ invented ball hogging, but it is acceptable for him because of propaganda.
Problem 4:
MJ was a great man off the court! WRONG. MJ had a poor gambling addiction. It got his father killed. MJ had terrible issues in his marriage. But Kobe and Lebron are the bad guys. Lebron left Cleveland so he is an *******.. but you would leave your job because they weren't paying you well or progressing as a company would you not?!
Problem 5:
MJ won the finals by himself - Bullshit. The bulls made the playoffs even after MJ left, and did not make the playoffs until MJ was united with Pippen and Phil Jackson. MJ put them over the top, but he wasn't as valuable as Lebron at all. Look at Cleveland after he left... LOL!!!!
Problem 6:
MJ is a great role model. This one annoys me the most. Listen to this man speak to the media. He is full of hatred and negativity. He runs the worst organization in the NBA year after year and continues to challenge the players in 1 on 1 for money (and mostly loses). His shoes are $150 a pop and young children will fight and kill to get a pair. His Hall of Fame speech was filled with bashing and bitterness. Why would I EVER want my children to be like this man? Because he won a few games?!?! Because he got cut from his high school basketball team?? (A lie, he got cut from Varsity as a Frosh and played JV).
I don't extend this rant to just MJ though, it works for all sports. Sports are better now than in the past. People have some sort of revisionist theory when it comes to sports. Saying player A will be better than player B is as repulsing to some people as eating ****! Tiger Woods will never be better than Jack. Crosby never better than Gretzky. Brady never better than Montana and Young. Wake up, and get your head out of their extinct asses!
Guys.. why do people take it personal?!?!?! Can we respect the accomplishments of modern athletes at all?!?!!
