I started out as a teen drinking whatever I could get. Later it turned into the Vodka and Gin by the gallon for $10 at the supermarket. One day we were shopping and saw that Smirnoff vodka was on sale for a great price so we picked it up. Immediately we could tell the difference! From that day on we never again bought cheap booze. We buy spirits to enjoy their quality, not to get hammered (although, that's good too!)
Vodka
My wife and I enjoy Vodkas. We've found that Skyy is not only a great deal, but it's an impressive quality for it's price. Recently we've been only buying Belvedere. Its so smooth that I drink it straight with a splash of lime juice. The only problem is it comes in 750ml only and it's $30 a bottle. It goes too quickly.
Tequila
We also enjoy tequilas. We started out with Jose Quervo Black because it's smooth with a nice aged taste to it. Jose Quervo Gold is a bit gross IMO, taste too much like that cheap Easter chocolate no one wants. We can no longer get Black because it isn't sold anymore. We tried a few other tequilas and we've been enjoying Hornitos. Hornitos is a gold tequila, not aged too long but it has a rich agave flavor that is very enjoyable straight.
Gin
I personally enjoy Gin. My wife does not. I'll usually get Bombay Sapphire because it's reasonably priced but still has a good quality. Recently I've been trying Beefeaters which is supposed to be a top shelf but I'm not sold on it yet. I don't like to drink gin straight so I usually have it with tonic water and lime. I've heard a great summer drink is A cucumber martini with cracked pepper.
I'm not a whisky fan. I'm trying to be a scotch fan. I've had a few of them but it's hard for me to get the pallet. I guess I have to drink more...
Jagermeister
And finally, my favorite drink is Jagermeister. I have a Jagermeister tap machine to keep my favorite drink frosty cold. I normally drink it right out of the bottle but sometimes mixing with a little tonic water or root beer is good too. Rootbeer can make it a bit too sweet for my tastes, but for those who can't handle it straight, it's a good way to get into it. Jagermeister is like the Dr Pepper of the spirit world. It has many complex ingredients that add to it's unique taste.
Mixed drinks
I prefer Gin & Tonic, Vodka Cran and Margaritas. Otherwise it's straight or with a splash of lime.
