I know I'm not much with car knowledge, but I have friends and family members who have personally restored a variety of old muscle, and even a 944T as well. My neighbor of 12-13 years now has a 944T thats been sitting on the street for about 5 years now and he's willing to sell it running for 4k flat. After talking to him about it he's the second owner; original owner did extensive suspension/brake mods(20k total back in the 90s), some engine/turbo modifications as well(bigger turbo, intercooler, MAF, adjustable boost gauge, etc.), and he picked it up when the original owner got a divorce and had to sell. Now, the last dyno my neighbor did on the car put it around 350rwhp running on 21lbs of boost. He said the car will run a little spotty due to what he thinks is a bad/broken sensor in the engine causing it to freak out.
After looking around, I came across Lindsey Racing which makes parts primarily for the 944T; my only question is, what sort of parts should I be looking into getting to replace/re-build in order to make the car reliable? I know part of it comes down to ripping the car apart and seeing for myself, but the main thing I want to know is, could I make the car run semi-fully reliably for roughly 10k(not including the price of the car)?
Any info you guys can spit out whether it be info(parts, what to look for, personal experience with porsche/944T, etc.) or advice(go for it, you're retarded(I might need to hear this), be careful etc.)) would help out. I'm basically looking for a kick in the *** lol.
**My dad has thrown the idea of restoring/building a car for a while now, I'm taking him up on the idea and basically getting him to fund it, so if I get more info, he'll be more willing to go for it when I approach him with the ballpark cost for the rebuild.
EDIT: My neighbor let the 944T sit instead of fixing it because they bought a new(now semi-old) Cayman S to ride around in.
