Got a notice in the mail a few months ago that I could be included in a Class Action against some Hotel Call Center. I have seen these post card sized notices for various causes since I was a little boy, had a teacher in 6th grade tell us to mail in a claim for $10 and it came, big money 50 years ago.

Anyway I mailed in this claim, joined the class, forgot about it and today came a check for $259!:occasion14:

"A proposed $11,700,000 class action settlement has been reached in the lawsuit McCabe, Simpson & Sarabia v. Six Continents Hotels, Inc. The lawsuit claims that Six Continents Hotels, Inc., recorded and monitored telephone calls of persons calling toll-free reservations and customer-service lines while residing or located in California without telling callers that the calls may be recorded and monitored allegedly in violation of California law.Six Continents Hotels, Inc. has denied the claims"

Long story short a previous owner mutant gorilla destroyed my oil pan.

Anybody swapped one out? It looks like I can pull it relatively easily. Any caveats?

Anybody done it before?

No IRS : Not important!

I looked at many reviews now on the new 2016 Cruze and the fact that it doesnt have an IRS, Independant rear suspension, isnt important at all. Of course a Double-wishbone or Multi-link rear suspension is better on paper, but the final product, the actual driveability and handling of the car has little to do with that fact.

It's like saying : "My car has 300+hp." That can be a fact, but that wont tell you if its a STI or a Nissan Titan with the new Cummins diesel!

Many in the press, reviewers and random peeps on the net cryed about the fact it wasnt an IRS, but they forget that most of the cars in this class have a torsion beam. In reality, It's all about the Tuning.

Chevy has done a very good job tuning the old Cruze's chassis and from the reviews i saw for the new Cruze, its even better!

I raced with my old Cruze, passing WRX and such on the Track, everyone was very impressed with my Cruze and no one EVER asked if i had an IRS, because they knew better.

For those who dont know, Chevy has won 3 WTCC championship in a row with the Cruze, and it had a Torsion beam rear suspension on it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M19RQehDQa4

So anyone who tell you that they dont want to buy a Cruze because it doesnt have an IRS, tell them to go Drive one and see. If they are not retarded, they will agree it has no importance.

Enjoy the new Cruze.

2012 eco manual, hot at the driver side

Hi.

I have been with this car for 3 years. Recently, I found out that my driver side, right, felt hot, at least very warm after driving 20 minutes local. Like today, 80 degree outside, without AC, with the wind fan blow at scale 2, without AC, I could feel the cool air from out side, but my right foot felt very warm. The plastic felt very warm. And if I stick my hand into some empty spaces between right side plastic and some empty space under steering wheel, I could even feel the hot air. Is there anyone, having a 2012 eco manual, has any thing like this? Do I need to take my car to dealer and let them check out the insulation on driver side?

thanks for the help.

Dan

Just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone and keep on with the great info on this site. I've been watching for awhile now and finally decided to join. I drive a 2014 Eco with the manual transmission which I bought brand new. Love my car. Thinking of getting a tune for it and I guess we'll see what that leads me to after that.

KSport Coilover Question

Having KSport coilovers installed on my diesel tomorrow. My question is about the damper settings. Not looking to significantly firm up my ride characteristics. Want a nice factory-like ride. Where should I set the dampers initially? I have Pedders coilovers on my ECO that my son now uses. I had those set at +10 off full soft, IIRC. Thanks.

Started up my 2014 Diesel Cruze today and right off the bat it started warning about service failures. It kept giving warnings. Blinkers wouldn't work, entire navigation system would also crash, reboot or stay powered off.

Here is a video.

Baby was making some noise, but gives a good idea of what was happening.

It's at the dealer right now. Anyone have this happen to them?

Luckily the engine ran fine.

Deleted muffler and deleted resonator but need more throat :)

Hey guys, I deleted my muffler about 3 months ago now then deleted the resonator the next day! I don't mind the sound but now that it's warmer, I'm sure the warm air in the engine is the cause of it being much quieter than it was in the winter!

I'm looking for a quieter sound while idol but some loud "throaty-ness" when accelerating! I'm not even sure if it's possible but I'm interested in ideas, option, tips, hint or any advice really!

Here's a video of what my 1.4l LT RS sounded like in a cold start up with KN, trifecta tune, and resonator and muffler deleted!

(Dont mind what I was actually doing initially in the video, tail light flash modular wasn't working when the car was running but when the car was off it did smh...couldn't figure it out so I said screw the idea and put it back to normal)

I have the 2014 Chevy Cruze 2.0TD stock tune file. The file is locked and due to licensing I cant get in... yet! But i have the file for anyone else who may want to give it a crack(see what I did there?). Hope this helps someone PM me for the file, I can email it as a .ctz or .txt that you can open with a ctz progam!

I have a 2014 Cruze 2LT with 44.5k miles on it. Recently I've noticed it seem to "hit" or "hesitate" under moderate load while driving on the interstate. I'm not driving wide open or anything, just moderate load. However, under heavy load when trying to pass someone it'll downshift no problem but then when going back into 6th, it'll kind of shutter. Any ideas?

How about you?

I have had issues with my local dealer in regards to to over charging, not finishing work, not giving paperwork, not returning phone calls etc whenever i brought the car to be looked at.....

Yet when i search reviews for this dealer, who has been in business 100 years (i guess) there is not one single negative comment anywhere on the internet.

Makes me think they are paying a fortune to have the web scrubbed of reviews

what say you guys

Cruze whoosh sound, normal?

I just hope I am not paranoid but yesterday I started my car & listened to it & it sit there making a whoosh whoosh whoosh sorta like in a pulse style sound. This doesn't do it at all at cold start up, only once it reaches normal 'home' temp. There isn't any power loss, or anything of that nature.

I have searched the forums here & noticed that it was the air compressor, which I am honestly hoping not! I will get a audio sound later today for you'll but in the meantime anyone else experience such a issue? & worse to worse if its the air compressor is it covered my ( Coverage component letter ) as my main powertrain warranty is gone!

Cruze BNR Tune Review

Morning/Afternoon All,

I dont know that i have ever really given BNR and Jerry Kinney a review over EFI Live. So i will do that now.
I have had EFI Live for almost a year now. When i first got it all i had was a KN Short Ram Intake. Got the handheld in the mail. Immediately went and downloaded EFI Live and went out to my car and got an E78 read for my stock file. Got that loaded on to the EFI Live explorer, emailed it over to Jerry. Couple hours later and i had the base tune. Sadly I couldnt put it on that night. it was already 11pm and i had to work the next morning. Well i made sure i woke up early enough to throw the base tune on the car before work. Mannn can i say that base tune is INCREDIBLE all by itself. I immediately fell in love. Immediately felt more power. More throttle response. About a month later I ported my Intake Manifold. Holy **** even more response. Mainly it was just up top. Anyhow, sent Jerry a datalog. Took a few days as he is now getting more and more people using EFI Live. A month or two later, I did a muffler delete and sent jerry another log. took a few days as well. Still being fairly quick with his work. About 3 months after that i finally went catless. Again sent jerry a log and about a week later got an update. You HAVE to remember Jerry is a TWO person team. him and his SO. It will take the man some time to get back. hes got at least 300 sonics and cruzes that he tries to get updates for when asked. That brings me to today. I now have an FMIC installed, and need to send him an update. i havent yet have been busy with trying to get a house. Anyhow that doesnt matter.

Jerry throughout this entire year that i have had EFI Live has been nothing but great. Any question that i had asked him he was quick to answer.

Just because Jerry doesnt get back to you in a week or two weeks. Doesnt mean that he is ignoring you or doesnt care. he is a Two person crew. He is doing his damndest to make everyone happy. and make sure their cars are running the way they want them to be running.

I will speak for myself when i give Jerry and his SO a 5 star rating. He has done absolutely wonderful.

Now if you are on the edge whether you want to buy EFI Live or not. I will give you a brief break down on what you can expect out of the price that is listed.

$550 is the total price.

$350 includes the handheld itself, One cable that plugs from the handheld into youre laptop/pc, the second cable plugs from you handheld into your OBD2 on your computer.

$200 covers UNLIMITED tunes/tuning service by Jerry himself.

Take this into consideration. You go to dyno tune because you put on an FMIC. A lot of places will charge about $100 per hour. Lets say youre there for 30 mins. You still get charged that $100. Then the next month you put on a BOV, and go catless. Yo go back to the shop so that you can get updated for the things you added. youre there for 2 hours. That $200. In TWO trips you dropped $300.
Where as with EFI Live you spend $200 up front and from then on every single datalog you send to jerry and get an update back doesnt cost you a dime. I dont know about you. For me I like looking at the future. or the Long Range Plan (LRP). To me it was a far ebtter choice. Less money to spend on updates. More money to spend on parts.

PS: Sorry I did not mean to go on for so long Lol. If you read all of this you are a trooper.

PSS: here is the link to the website to order EFI Live if you would like to order.

Quick question on my Cruze?

Hi There, I'm new :)

I picked up my 6-speed 2013 LT/RS back in November with just over 19,400 miles on it shortly after blowing up my second motor in my Cobalt SS... oopsie.

For now I'm mainly here just to read some discussion on anything having to do with making and keeping her pretty (so far I can tell I can already relate via the frustration of finding the perfect wheels with a 5x105 bolt pattern... it certainly doesn't help when you're already picky as is :sad010:) I eventually want to look into a Trifecta tune once I get past warranty... in the meantime I'll be around asking questions! Nice to meet all of you!

VERY frequent DPF regens

$
0
0
I have a 2014 CTD with 28.3k miles (bought used with 16.9k). I just recently got myself a ScanGaugeII and it says I have 158 total completed regenerations... That's 179 miles per regen over the life of the car! My most recent distance between regens was 63 miles. 102 for the one before that.

My commute is stop and go back roads 25miles each way. 26-32mph average speed usually, according to the trip meter. Because of this, I expected to be on the worse end of the regen frequency spectrum.. but I would have guessed 400-500 per.

So my car doesn't currently have any codes thrown, but this seems like an outrageous amount of DPF regens. I'm worried something will finally rear its ugly head after my warranty runs out.

I had also just gotten myself a Trifecta tune, which I have removed after 2.5 days of use. I am certain it was not the cause, but I want to address this problem before I add in the variable of an aftermarket tune. If it's relevant: when testing out my new tune I didn't notice a huge difference, and I couldn't get the instantaneous horsepower reading to break above 110.

History on the car: I bought with a note in the carfax that it had been taken in for "engine computer issues". I bought it in late August '15 with 550 gal fuel used and 16.9k miles (30.7 mpg average, I've averaged 36.7 mpg for my ownership). It threw a CEL on me twice; once in December and again in February. When I checked the code through OnStar they were quite vague (I don't remember the specific code). By the time I could take it to the dealer the codes had cleared themselves.

I've run 3 different diesel fuel system cleaners through the tank, replaced the tires with Michelin Premier A/S at 25k miles (didn't need tires yet, just unhappy with the stock ones in winter conditions), oil changes every 5k at the dealer. I plan to keep this car a long time and I don't intend to skimp or skip any preventive maintenance. I have a big service planned at ~30k: oil change, tire rotate, fuel filter, intake and cabin air filters, transmission flush and conversion to Amsoil atf. I'm strongly considering installing a Perrin air/oil seperator (best design I've seen so far, by a fair margin).

I also noticed when I checked my oil dipstick today, after driving about a mile to the gas station on my lunch break, that little puffs of what looked like exhaust.

Am I screwed and experiencing massive blow-by? Is the EGR going crazy and causing poor combustion and clogging my dpf? Is my high pressure fuel pump not running at proper pressure? Soot mass sensor malfunction? All of these are just guesses but needless to say I'm pretty freaked out.

I plan on dropping it off to the dealer, but honestly they don't give me the impression of being experts on our rare LUV engine. Anyone have any ideas of where to look first?

TLDR: Regens waaay too often, possibly low power, no check engine codes thrown. I take good care of the car, don't drive like a feind. What gives?

Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
This procedure checks both the transmission fluid level, as well as the condition of the fluid itself.
Caution: Use Dexron® VI transmission fluid only. Failure to use the proper fluid may result in transmission internal damage.

Note: Ensure the transmission has enough fluid in it to safely start the vehicle without damaging the transmission. With the vehicle off and the transmission fluid temperature at approximately 20–25°C (68–77°F) there must be at least enough fluid to drain out of the fluid level hole. This will ensure that there is enough fluid in the sump to fill the components once the vehicle is started.

Non Dipstick Level Checking Procedure
  • Start the engine.
  • Depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever through each gear range, pausing for about 3 seconds in each range. Then move the shift lever back to PARK (P).
  • Allow the engine to idle 500–800 rpm for at least 3 minutes to allow any fluid foaming to dissipate and the fluid level to stabilize. Release the brake pedal.Note: If the TFT reading is not at the required temperature, allow the vehicle to cool, or operate the vehicle until the appropriate TFT is reached. If the fluid temperature is below the specified range, perform the following procedure to raise the fluid temperature to the specification.
Drive the vehicle in second gear until the fluid temperature is at the specified temperature.

  • Keep the engine running and observe the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) using the Driver Information Center or a scan tool.Caution: The transmission fluid level must be checked when the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) is at 85–95°C (185–203°F). If the TFT is not at this temperature, operate the vehicle or allow the fluid to cool as required. Setting the fluid level with a TFT outside this temperature will result in either an under or over-filled transmission. TFT 95°C under-filled, TFT 85°C over-filled. An under-filled transmission will cause premature component wear or damage. An over-filled transmission will cause fluid to discharge out the vent tube, fluid foaming, or pump cavitation.

  • Raise the vehicle on a hoist. The vehicle must be level, with the engine running and the shift lever in the PARK range.
  • While the vehicle is idling, remove the oil level set plug. Allow any fluid to drain.
    • If the fluid is flowing as a steady stream, wait until the fluid begins to drip.
    • If no fluid comes out, add fluid until fluid drips out.

  • Inspect the fluid color. The fluid should be red or dark brown.
    • If the fluid color is very dark or black and has a burnt odor, inspect the fluid for excessive metal particles or other debris. A small amount of “friction” material is a “normal” condition. If large pieces and/or metal particles are noted in the fluid, flush the oil cooler and cooler lines and overhaul the transmission. If there are no signs of transmission internal damage noted, replace the fluid, repair the oil cooler, and flush the cooler lines.
    • Fluid that is cloudy or milky or appears to be contaminated with water indicates engine coolant or water contamination. Refer to Engine Coolant/Water in Transmission.

  • Inspect for external leaks. Refer to Fluid Leak Diagnosis.
  • If the fluid was changed, reset the transmission oil life monitor if applicable.

Dipstick Level Checking Procedure (If equipped)
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake and place the shift lever in PARK (P). Start the engine.
Release the brake pedal.

    Note:

    • If the TFT reading is not at the required temperature, allow the vehicle to cool, or operate the vehicle until the appropriate TFT is reached. If the fluid temperature is below the specified range, perform the following procedure to raise the fluid temperature to the specification.
    • Check the transmission fluid level when the TFT is at between 85–95°C (185–203°F). The fluid level rises as fluid temperature increases, so it is important to ensure the transmission fluid temperature is at the specified temperature.Drive the vehicle in second gear until the fluid temperature is at the specified temperature.

  • The vehicle must be level, with the engine running and the shift lever in the PARK range.
  • Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag or paper towel.

  • Install the dipstick. Wait three seconds and then remove it again.Note: Always check the fluid level at least twice. Consistent readings are important to maintaining proper fluid level. If inconsistent readings are noted, inspect the transmission vent cap to ensure it is clean and unclogged.

Note: It is not necessary to get the fluid level all the way up to the MAX mark. Anywhere within the crosshatch band is acceptable.

  • Check both sides of the dipstick and read the lower level.
  • Install and remove the dipstick again to verify the reading.Note: Do not add more than one half pint (0.25L) at a time without rechecking the level. Once the oil is on the dipstick bullet, it will not take much more fluid to raise the fluid level into the crosshatch band. Do not overfill. Also, if the fluid level is low, inspect the transmission for leaks. Refer to Fluid Leak Diagnosis.

  • If the fluid level is not within the crosshatch band, and the transmission temperature is at 90°C (194°F), add or drain fluid as necessary to bring the level into the crosshatch band. If the fluid level is low, add only enough fluid to bring the level into the crosshatch band.
  • If the fluid level is in the acceptable range, install the dipstick.
  • If the fluid was changed, reset the transmission oil life monitor if applicable.

Fluid Condition Inspection
  • Inspect the fluid color. The fluid should be red in color. The fluid may also turn brown form normal use, and does not always indicate contamination.Note: Fluid that is very dark or black and has a burnt odor usually indicates contamination or overheating.

  • If the fluid color is very dark or black and has a burnt odor, inspect the fluid for excessive metal particles or other debris which may indicate transmission damage. Refer to Road Test to verify transmission operation. Change the transmission fluid if no other conditions are found.
  • Fluid that is cloudy or milky or appears to be contaminated with water indicates engine coolant or water contamination. Refer to Engine Coolant/Water in Transmission.
