Buying used Gen 1 diesel vs. new Gen 2?

$

I'm in the market for a diesel sedan for commuting. A new 2nd gen is tempting, but unproven and $25k or so. I have seen several used 1st gen diesels for sale ranging from about $10k to &18k with anything from 25k to 80k miles. The internet tells me the 1st gen can be a hassle with the emissions equipment.

If you've owned a 1st gen diesel, especially if you have driven it past 100k, I'd like your thoughts on the pros and cons of the 1st gen. Is it worth looking at used, or are they too troublesome? I am no stranger to DIY repairs, and no stranger to diesels (although my 1987 300D is vastly different than the modern variety of diesels...).

Front wheel bearing failing too soon!

I purchased my Chevy Cruze eco 2014 new. I have 48,000 on it. The front passenger bearing is failing. I only have the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. However, in the warranty book it is written, "Under certain conditions GM and or GM dealers may provide assistance after the limited warranty period has expired when the problem results from a defect in material or workmanship."

What do you think? Will they stand behind it. I never abused this car and am surprised that a bearing would go out before 50,000 miles. Any thoughts our input anyone?

thanks,
Joe

NEED HELP - Transmission HORRIBLE

Guys, going on four years with my cruze. Only have 33,000 miles on it, mostly highway. Car has never even been driven above 80mph. I treat this thing like a baby. But....
This car jolts forward and backward every single time i go to a stop light. It feels like I'm being hit by another car from behind. When i accelerate, it feels like its hesitating to change gears. It barely even makes it up hills, and when going down hills it totally downgrades and jolts down the hill. Theres times where i dont even enjoy driving it because it just makes the ride so annoying. Im bringing it by Chevy wednesday to look at it. But from what ive read and heard, Chevy tells everyone its NORMAL for a 4cyl engine. Which i know isn't true, because i drive every single 4cyl car out right now since i work for Enterprise rent a car. This car absolutely has something wrong with it, and I'm still within the warranty period. What should i do. Should i try to get it fixed or is this not even worth it, should i try to get Chevy to trade me into a new car. NEED SUGGESTIONS. Thank you

PCV Covered under powertrain warranty

Hi,
I noticed my 2012 Cruze wants to shut off while I am at a stop light (it appears to be stalling). Next day the check engine light turned on. I took it to Autozone and the primary code that popped up was 0171. I took it to a mechanic and he says my PCV needs to be replaced. He didn't charge me for looking at it but I'm wondering if I should take it to my dealer. I have 48k miles and my powertrain warranty is still active so I am curious to know if this falls under it. I don't want to take it in and get charged a $100 diagnostic fee plus the labor and part in addition to it. The mechanic I took it to said he'd charge $140 for it which includes the part. Appreciate your help.

2012 Cruze Seraph Orange or Autumn Metallic?

Hey All,

I'm Chase and I recently purchased a 2012 Cruze. It has a couple of scratches that I'd like to touch up, but I can't figure out the color. I checked in my glovebox for the color code but it's blank...Right next to the "BC/CC" there is nothing. Are Seraph Orange and Autumn Metallic the same color? Ive looked up both colors on the internet and they look the same to me, but I just wanna make sure before I order a paint pen. I'm attaching a pic from inside the door as a color reference. I know it's not the best, but it's dark outside and I won't be able to take anymore pics until tomorrow.

Thanks!

Greetings

2014 Cruze LS Manual

I have had my Cruze for about 2 years now. I have 47k on her right now. Are there any issues that start to creep up around 50k miles that I should keep an eye out for? I havent had really any issues other than it throwing a code for both of my O2 sensors.

water pump?

I bought a 2011 Chevy Cruze 5/2013, with 35k mi.

With in 6mos I had no antifreeze. I brought it to a Chevy dealer to check for any leaks. They said I didn't have any leaks. With in a year, 10/2014 and 82k mi, I brought my car back to the same Chevy dealership and they said I had a crack in my water pump and they replaced it on warranty.

This past December 2016, during a cold snap, I had NO HEAT! I was completely out of antifreeze again. Since then I've been putting more anti freeze every 2-3wks. I currently have 120k mi (yes I drive a lot, grr). This past week I noticed there was wet in the engine compartment where the water pump is located.

I've read in some other threads there could be a defect in the pump wall. Is that common or is the water pump going more frequent?

I do have appt next week at the dealership to replace water pump again.
thanks for any help!

Not really sure, but I hope somebody can shed some light on this. 2012 Cruze LT, 1.4 l engine. Approx 50k miles. Love the car but the past maybe 2 months I have been adding anti-freeze to the expansion tank. Maybe a pint each month. Can't see any signs of moisture on belts, hoses or driveway. Does anyone have an idea ?
thanks

IPASS Transponder Mounting

I am thinking about buying an Illinois IPASS transponder to pay for tolls since I will be going to Illinois in the next couple of months. The instructions I have downloaded from a Google search state that I need to place the IPASS transponder at least 1 inch below the top of the windshield (easy enough) and on the left side 1 inch away from the rear view mirror post (not easy because of the plastic island surrounding the post).

Anyone else on this forum have issues with this? How have you worked around it?

Adding fogs to an upgraded putco wiring harness

I'm interested in getting a set of fogs and the headlight switch from the scrap yard and adding them to my 2012 eco mt. I have the Putco model 239008HW upgraded wiring harness already in.

I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on how about doing this. I would like the fogs to operate the same as the factory drls and then on when my headlights are on if possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nathan

Just purchased my first Cruze. A 2014 LS with 11,800 miles in perfect condition for under $11,000. I loved my 2009 Malibu, but at 156k miles it was about to get very expensive in repairs that started to show up. I have had my Cruze almost a week and I love this car and this site for all the great info here!

Magmaflow muffler questionthere isn't too much more noise

$

After much research, reading the forums, into getting a performance muffler for my 2012 6spd turbo, I still have one sorta big question I haven't seem to have found an answer for. My local muffler guy who has installed many brand name performance mufflers on my other vehicles over the years, all of which have clearly improved my MPG, quoted me $258 for a Magnaflow muffler installed to replace my factory muffler. I plan on keeping the factory resonator in place so there's not too much more noise. I am really hoping to save a few pounds of weight to help economy and get better flow to get better economy. SO can anyone tell me if they have clearly improved their MPG? Thank you!

Low coolant level/Oder

2012 Cruze lt2 with about 58k. Not sure why but I'm having more issues with my coolant level. I keep adding but seems as if it's just evaporating or getting into the core and also emitting an odor. It's faint but I can smell it. I know this was an issue in regards to coolant and the Cruze before because I read about it. Seems to be an issue and was wondering if it's really a factory defect, will gm cover it?

Hello Cruze Nation

I purchased a used 2015 LTZ with the 1.4L engine a couple months ago. I do a fair amount of driving for work so I was looking for good gas mileage and the Cruze is also the best looking high MPG car out there in my opinion. I have been very happy with the low end torque of this engine. It does not have to do a lot of downshifting on moderate hills and it accelerates nicely. The steering is tight and it has a nice ride so I am very impressed with the car. It has be a pleasure to drive and I love getting over 30 miles per gallon.

I have also enjoyed reading this forum and as a result of my reading I have changed the transmission fluid to all synthetic and I just regapped my spark plugs. I typically put over 200,000 miles on my cars so hopefully I will be able to do that without any major headaches. I look forward to future posts.
