Rough Idle

$

I have about had it with my 2011 Chevy Cruze. It has been to the dealership many of times in the past 6 months or so. I have had the valve replacement done new spark plugs, they cleanes the fuel injection and my car is still running with a rough idle. In all of my life I've never had a car as a dealership as much as this one has been. I have no warranty and it feels like it's going to die on me every time I'm sitting at a stop sign or when I try to go in reverse. Any ideas?

Improving on the side view mirrors

One thing I've never liked about my 2014 Eco Cruze is the terrible blind spot when I look over my shoulder.

Has anyone tried finding a special "corner mirror" to glue on the standard side view mirror to eliminate that blind spot? Is it even possible? I'm considering doing some research on this and any help insights links or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Joe

New here from Houston

Hi all, I am from Houston TX and new to Cruze's but not new to cars. I am in the process of starting up my own shop and it is making it hard to finance my own projects with my personal overhead. so its time to make cuts. and the main one is my very expensive car note on my 2012 Centennial Corvette Grand Sport. So its time to take a step back and re evaluate my situation and cut my out going costs down. That is where the Cruze come into play. I love the way the 1st generation looks and the cost is favorable. $12k-$15k for a fully loaded nicer LTZ RS. I can do that. Lower it down and put some nice 20" rims, prolly gunna get a black one and black everything out, debadge it and black out the interior too. then maybe later a turbo upgrade may be in order. Now time to cruise around in this forum and see what it is about.

Tire dealer tells me 3 of 4 wheels are bent

On my new 2013 I replaced a couple tires and the tire dealer tells me 3 of the 4 wheels are "bent" I agree some curb rash but I feel nothing as far as vibration and car rides smooth just a little road noise I am thinking because I have "newer" tires and need to be broken in. I was looking at replacing the curb "rashed" wheels with used wheels from a salvage yard but don't know about replacing all 4. I really think the tire dealer just didn't want to work on my car? ! Def need a 2nd opinion.

odor/fumes coming from air vents

I am getting a odor/fumes coming from the air vent. It only happen when my car comes to a stop and the fan kicks on. Since the fan kicks on at almost every stop, this happens often. I can actually see a fog of a sort coming from the vents as well. I have noticed there is a small coolant leak as well. But the leak is located by the coolant refill box and i dont think this is causing the smell. Can someone please give me some advise of fixing.

Warning Lights when Using Brakes, signals, windows, etc.

Hello again Everyone,

Back in June I was having some issues with my Cruze. Had codes for a vacuum leak, and lean bank codes, etc.

Basically, I ended up replacing the cam cover/PCV valve. I did not replace the intake manifold at this time as I figured I'd try to just get away with the cheaper part, although I did not actually look to see if the check valve in the manifold was gone.

Anyway, as of recently, when braking, using turn signals, changing from park to drive or reverse or any gear, using windows...when using these 'features' the car will flash a few warning lights. Service StabiliTrak comes up on the small screen between the tachometer and speedometer. The traction control light also comes on, a break warning light pops up and also the ABS light. Lastly, and this only happened once for about 10 seconds, power steering had completely cut out while driving on the highway.

Hoping someone could point me in the right direction again...and also if anyone has any idea if these issues could be related to not replacing the intake manifold from my previous issue.

Thanks in advanced for the help!

*FIX* for radio and electronics intermittently fluctuating on and off

I personally struggled with my cruze's radio, blower, and lights on the dash such as service stabilitrak, abs, and service engine soon light coming on/off then resuming back to normal function after a few seconds.

It mainly did it at night and I couldn't figure out why so I took it to the stealership under warranty (huge hassle) and with no charge they could not duplicate the problem or find any issues or codes.

When I brought it home and turned it off it sat for a couple of hours in the rain and I took it back out for a test drive and it was acting up like crazy.

Realizing this was something to do with an electrical connection due to it being loose and letting moisture in.

* BEFORE UNPLUGGING THE BATTERY AND PCM/FUSES JUST WIGGLE THEM AND MAKE SURE THEY'RE TIGHT*

1) Popped the hood
2) Disconnected - and + battery terminals
3) disconnected the PCM (?) not sure as I didn't have access to diagrams at the time although it had 3 connections on the computer left of the junction box and battery
4) disconnected all 3 connectors, cleaned them with connector cleaner and dielectric greased them
5) hooked them back up and made sure they were fully connected
6) connected battery terminals
7) wiggled and inspected every visible and easy to reach connector in the engine bay

Of course this is all after I checked the fuses/relays and pushed them down... *some felt like they vibrated loose*

Anyways, I waited a month to post this to drive it in various conditions and times and the problem has not came back.

Instead of tossing a BCM/PCM or any other expensive diagnosis/repair just try this and give it a shot!

Thermostat Housing; Finding Right Parts; Other Issues?

Hi, we have a Cruze with Date 01/13 on the door.
I think it might be an LS? But I see no such emblems.
The VIN is 1G1PA5SH0D7213581

I took it to a mechanic who told me to replace the coolant
overflow tank/lid. This didn't fix anything but I finally
saw fluid around and under the thermostat housing.

How do I find the right parts for this model?

Are there any other issues that I should worry about for
replacing this housing? Common technical difficulties?
O-rings/gaskets, whatever?

You can see some of it in the middle of these pics:

Hello, my name is Kim and I just joined this forum today. I have a 2012 Cruze LTZ, and I've had that since March 2016. I love, love, love my car! There have been some wonky things that have happened (just like with most cars), so I thought I'd join a forum to hopefully get answers before having to take my car in and pay the mechanic. :)

Hilarious times at the dealership

So I took my aunt out shopping for a new car today. She had been rocking a 2003 Impala for the past 14 years, and thanks to the salt, it was time for a new ride. Cruzes and Malibus was the selection of the day, and we hit the road to find a willing GM dealer to sell us one we liked.

So we found a 2014 Cruze LT, 1.4L turbo, with only 10k miles, and the guy was asking $15,500. Not bad, I said, but what if we offered you $15,000 out the door? After a little negotiating, they had her write a check for $15,200 exactly, and they threw in 4 oil changes. All in all, the car cost $13,900, and the rest was Minnesota's glorious sales taxes.

We're in the finance department, signing the last of the papers. The finance guy looks at her and says, "Your bumper to bumper from GM expires in 1 month, and the powertrain has 18 months left on it. How do you feel about extending it?" We politely declined, citing the existing GM warranty. He responds: "Nothing important is covered by the powertrain warranty. Everything today is computers, and those are what's really expensive."

I inquired further, to see just how stupid he thinks I am to swallow this pack of lies. His prices: $14,000 for a new TCM, $9,000 for a new ECM, and even the shocks are at $5,000 in his imaginary world. What a joke. I've never heard that amount of BS in one sentence from a car guy before. If my aunt wasn't there, I would have lit his sorry ass up. After we closed the deal, I pulled the salesman aside and told him what happened... he was shocked at how absurd that quack was.

I'm thinking about applying a new coat of wax in the near future. As I've been washing my Cruze about once a week, I've kept the car quite clean. However, I've notice these tiny ball-shaped contaminants stuck to the hood and roof (see line of spots in attached pic).

I've been reading stuff online and watching videos on how clay bar can remove surface contaminants, while it does also strip wax. While many pro and amateur detailers on YouTube stress making liberal use of lubricant or claying while washing, some say that claying will scratch your car.

I'd like to get rid of these little spots on my car, but I don't want to risk scratching my car, as I know nothing about compounding and polishing.

Any advice as to how to get rid of these contaminants?

Thanks.

2017 Premier Automatic Trans Anomoly

So, the other day, I was driving home from work, getting on the highway, and was behind a truck driving pretty slow, creeping down the onramp. As soon as I got the chance to go around the truck, I eased into the accelerator, just enough to feel the boost start to kick in, well, the car downshifted, into what was presumably 2nd gear, at about 60mph, and went into an RPM induced nose dive, and the car stayed in that gear, until I decided, only a few seconds later, to let up on the throttle, and then the car corrected itself. Wondering if anyone else has had this happen? I reluctantly bought the Auto, only because the Premier only comes one way. I do have to say, that when the Auto is working, correctly, it?s definitely a nice Automatic. The car had less than 1,000 miles on it, at the time of the anomoly. It?s only happened that one time.

Hello there... New here! Have 2014 Cruze LS with manual transmission. I got winter tires, but looking for steel wheels for them to get ready for the snow! My question is.. Would Subaru Forester wheels fit on the Cruze? They share the exact same dimensions but what about the lugs? 5/100 on the Forester and 5/105 on the Cruze... Fit or no?

Thanks!
